Leadership Education for RPNs and other health care professionals

Course Description:
Critical examination of leadership in nursing including leadership theory, communication, problem solving, change and influence, and conflict which upon review and examination will support development of personal and professional leadership skills at the individual RPN level.

Course Objectives:
Upon completion of the course, the learner will be able to:

  1. Identify how to be a remarkable leader
  2. Communicate powerfully
  3. Demonstrate how to problem solve through decision making and critical thinking
  4. Recognize and reiterate conflict resolution techniques
  5. Identify exemplary leadership practices and influence during change
  6. Develop a Personal Leadership Development Plan

Day & time: Asynchronous discussions in e-learning environment

Class meeting place: LinkingHealthProfessionals

Prerequisites: Must be an RPN or other health care professional. Participants must have access to a computer and basic computer skills to participate in the electronic class discussions.

Program length & delivery: The program is an eight week eLearning course. The next program will be offered in the Fall session, it will take place from Sept 19, 2016 (week one) ending Nov 7, 2016 (week eight).

Certificate: Upon completion you will receive a certificate from RPNAO. You must complete all requirements in order to be eligible to receive the certificate

Facilitation: This course will be facilitated by Annette Weeres RN BScN MN. Annette has over 30 years of nursing experience and leadership knowledge through her roles in acute care, remote nursing, provincial working group, part-time/sessional faculty at Seneca College, and staff at RPNAO. Annette brings experience in facilitation from her education and nursing leadership experiences to this course.

Course Cost:

  1. RPNAO Members      $275.00 + HST = $310.75
  2. Non-Members              $357.50 + HST = $403.98
