“To select just four winners out of all the qualified submissions we received was a real challenge and a testament to the dedication and talent of Ontario’s registered practical nurses,” says Sheri Oliver, Program Director for RPNAO. “We are extremely proud of this year’s winners for the vision and leadership they are showing in advancing the nursing profession.”
Scientific and clinical advancements result in a constantly changing workplace for nurses. While nursing education provides the basic building blocks, continuing education is required to ensure patients receive the best possible care. These fellowships provide nurses with an opportunity to pursue extensive professional development, which they can then bring back to their day-to-day roles.
The annual Fellowship program is made possible through funding from the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. Proposals are submitted to RPNAO, where they undergo extensive peer review.
“The Fellowship program is a win-win for the nurses, their employers and most importantly, the patients,” says Oliver. “These nurses are pursuing the latest in clinical care developments and are putting that knowledge into practice at the bedside.”
Eligibility criteria and review process details can be found at www.rpnao.org. The call for proposals for 2010 Fellowships will be issued this fall.
