Description:
This 8-month course consists of two 4-day residential weekends that are held in Toronto,ON, twelve self-study modules, and an elective related to each registrant’s day-to-day activities. The goal of the course is to provide a comprehensive educational experience for wound care specialists and to translate new knowledge into practice. Participants in the course will learn:

 

1. To assess and critically review wound care literature in key subject areas.

 2. To integrate wound care principles by a self-directed learning program formulated with a learning contract.

3. To demonstrate the application of best practices by developing an elective related to the learner’s everyday activities.
The course is designed for wound care specialists with some training and experience and in particular geared for physicians, nurses, and other health professionals working in the field or in related industry.
Self-Learning Modules:
1. Introduction: Education and Research Process (Mandatory) 2. Patient Centered Concerns: Pain, Quality of Life 3. Health Care Delivery: Team Approach, Guidelines, Standards, Algorithms 4. Wound Bed Preparation (Mandatory) 5. Inflammation and Infection 6. Leg Ulcers (Venous/Arterial/Other) (Mandatory) 7. Diabetic/Foot Ulcers (Mandatory) 8. Pressure Ulcers (Mandatory) 9. Maintenance/Non-Healing Chronic Wounds 10. Post Surgical Wounds 11. Burns/Trauma 12. Peri-stomal/Peri-wound & Skin
Qualifications:
Participants must have a health professional degree OR provide proof of a minimum of five years of wound care experience.
